After being mid-table halfway through the season, few thought Reading had a promotion fight in them, but an incredible run of games saw them battling with Southampton for that promotion spot. The two faced each other at St Mary's, and Reading were closing in on a 2-1 win. Southampton were piling on the pressure, but along came Le Fondre for the second time that day to bang home the third and final goal, all but guaranteeing Reading's promotion.
